Oil tanker damaged by freak wave, not ‘terrorist attack’

The ship’s owners originally reported an explosion onboard and said it may have been caused by a “terrorist attack” but a port official who spoke to the crew said there was no evidence.

Evidence …. what evidence of a “freak wave” is there? I mean generally in my experience when something gets hit by a wave there are usually some tell-tale signs … Mainly the fact that everything is all wet ….. also you generally see a giant wall of water approaching, and if what I’ve seen in cartoons is to be trusted (which it better be) then all kinds of sea life will be left lying around … like a singing octopus …. a grumpy old sea-horse …. and friendly coruscations!!!

No oil leaked from the supertanker, named M Star, although some members of the 31-strong crew were injured, said an unnamed general manager at the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates where the ship was due to dock at 5 p.m. (9 a.m. ET).

On board were 16 Filipino and 15 Indian crew members.

“The cause of the incident was a freak wave and there is damage in the upper accommodation decks of the ship and a few injured people on board,” he told Reuters.

unnamed general managers are generally great sources of accurate information since the existence of terrorist attacks in this area would have no effect what-so-ever on his business …. would it ……

Earlier, Junto Endoh, general manager in the Doha liaison office for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, told Zawya Dow Jones the explosion was”maybe an attack, not a spontaneous accident, it may be a terrorist attack.”

The company had also said in a separate statement that the damage to the ship was due to “an explosion from a suspected attack from the outside” in the waters off Oman near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Al-Qaida has threatened to attack shipping in the strait.

sooooo WTF HAPPENED could this article be any more vague, and if the fact is they’re not sure yet so be it, but just say that. At the top of the article they seem to be factually reporting that it was a wave but as you read on it seems to be anything but that …. I mean aside from the fact the port managers want it to have been think it was a wave, and there was a small earthquake at some point (iirc this is a pretty seismically active region) what evidence is there that it was a wave. Who knows I hope it was a wave …. or a prank that the jolly seaman were playing on each other.

Incident ‘won’t stop the flow of crude’
The tanker bound for Chiba, near Tokyo, is carrying around 2.3 million barrels of Qatar Land and Abu Dhabi Lower Zakum crudes, industry sources said.

Any impact on the Asian spot crude market would be negligible and the tanker would have taken three weeks to arrive in Japan, traders said.

“This (event) won’t stop the flow of crude, so there will be no impact on what is able to be bought,” a Tokyo-based crude trader said.

Around 17 million barrels per day of oil flow via the Strait of Hormuz, and Middle East crude accounts for 90 percent of Japan’s total imports.

Phew …. wait 17 million barrels a day? That’s it ….. PUSSIES in the good ole U S of A we have twice that much just spewing out on our own beaches every day … because were hardcore … that’s how we roll!!

So let me sort this out …. one of the most important shipping channels in the world has been threatened, at the same time that we’ve been just throwing away twice as much oil as goes through said channel a day for months …. and the effect on the oil market ….. minimal at best. So STFU about this peak oil bullshit please. It should have been obvious to anyone that Peak Oil was  a hoarse-refuse argument as soon as T. Boone …. or Boone T. or what the hell ever Teabag Magee Pickens came out behind it. He even paid off convienced the government to use it on some of their trucks, all this for the benefit of mankind …. It’s not like he was the largest natural investor in the world …

Actually T. Boone Pickens is the worlds largest natural gas investor … and while his plan is wholly unnecessary and of very questionable merit at best …. One thing it would accomplish is making ole Teabag even more massively rich than he already is ….. I guess he got it right in the tittle of his new book “The First Billion Is the Hardest,” T. Faulkner has been to Pakistan at least six times, learned some of the local language, and even grew a long beard to blend in, relatives and acquaintances said.

…Scott I’m no expert on military intelligence, but I’m going to go ahead and assume that they are not out collecting information while wearing their dress uniforms….or like Ed Hardy t-shirts and croc’s …. Chances are they’ve already give the beard thing a whirl ….. maybe even tried to use a camel to really “sell it”. Did it ever occur to either of you that the police guard watching Mr. Faulkner might have tipped someone off that …. he ain’t from around here … ?

Scott Faulkner said his brother sold all his tools to finance his trip and was prepared to die in Pakistan. He said Faulkner had a travel visa, obtained his weapons inside Pakistan and only took with him a Bible and plastic handcuffs.

The thing that scares me the most about this whole situation  is that Scott is an MD!!!! And possibly treating patients in the good ole U S of A …… b/c if this is normal to you there’s no @#$% way I’m turning my head and coughing …. or anything else …. with you anywhere near me.

But the real silver lining here is it has shed the light on a new and important strategy ….. we round up all these militia types ….. and convince them that baby Jesus wants them to fight the infidels …. Then we drop them off in the central Asian wilderness … are they likely to find or kill Bin Ladin …. No, but unlike most political elections (where no matter who wins we all lose) in this case no matter who wins we all win!!!
